Agartala – Capital of Tripura state

The morning Flight from Mumbai to  Agartala – the capital of Tripura was very pleasant.

There was a hail storm as soon as we arrived at the Hotel, so all tour program postponed to next day.

Next day morning we  left to see the Ujjayanta Palace – former palace of the Kingdom of Tripura built in the Indo – Saracenic style of architecture. Ujjayanta Palace was built in 1862, 10 km  away from Agartala, by King Ishan Chandra Manikya (1849–1862). It was devastated by the Assam earthquake of 12 June 1897. The palace was rebuilt in the heart of Agartala city by Maharaja Radha Kishore Manikya in 1899–1901.Ujjayanta Palace was home of the Tripura Royals and also a state museum now.

 Today we explore the city of Agartala. We visited Tripura Sundari Temple. In the evening, we enjoy flag down parade at India Bangladesh border. Flag lowering ceremony takes place between India and Bangladesh at Akhaura border near Agartala, the capital city of Tripura every day much less famous but equally patriotic, the ceremony is performed by Border Security Force (BSF) of India and Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB).

 Today we left for Aizawal – capital of Mizoram en-route overnight stay at Silchar – second largest city of Assam.
