THIMPHU CITY

Thimphu the Capital of Bhutan, is a home of Royal family. The city, situated in the west-central part of the country, is in the Himalaya Mountains on the Raidak (also called Thimphu) River at about 7,000 feet  above sea level.  Visit Tashichhodzong the main building which houses the throne room of His Majesty, The King. View of the Thimphu valley from BBS tower is captivating and perfect introduction to Thimphu. Some of the sites of religious nature are National Memorial Chorten; built in 1974 it was raised in the memory of third King. Next, one of the oldest monasteries in the valley – Chang Gangkha monastery, The nature and wildlife National Zoo which also houses national animal Takin. National Library and then the Buddha point, most important 52 Meter high Buddha Statue.
